Official Week Zero and Regional Slots Open

Feb 16, 2017 Written by Frank Merrick.

Official Week Zero

FIRST Robotics Competition’s official Week Zero for FIRST STEAMWORKS will be held this Saturday, February 18th, at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA, and will be hosted by Team 811, The Cardinals.

Check out the event schedule here and watch live streaming here.

Week Zero gives us a chance to test out our systems with team-built robots running actual matches for the first time. As this is a first run, you can expect a few rough edges! We use what we learn to improve things like the field reset process when the official events start two weeks later.*

Thanks, Team 811, for hosting! We’re looking forward to it!

*Wait, if Week 1 events are two weeks later, shouldn’t this event be called Week -1? Can’t you math, Frank? Well, yeah, but tradition has a value all its own.

Our team will be busy finalizing parts of our robot during the Week Zero livestream, will it be recorded and uploaded somewhere for later viewing?

Hi Shane, yes, the Week Zero event recording should be saved and available on our Twitch channel for later viewing.

Wait, your robot isn't done yet? :)

Hey Frank, what makes a week zero an "official" week zero?  We ourselves are hosting a week zero in our state and I know that there are at least 5 others in this state alone.  Is there only one "official" week zero?

Hey Sandy, the 'official' week zero is the only one being supported directly by FIRST HQ with a fully functional Field Management System.  We love the fact that other locations are hosting events also, though!
